BIOGRAPHICAL:
First Experience -- Jas. W. Webb, aged nearly 83 years, and a pioneer of 1847, was in the city yesterday from Parkersville. He dropped into a barber shop on Commercial street and had a shave. There would be nothing curious about that, except that in all his 83 years, this was his first experience of this character. He had always shaved himself.
Daily Oregon Statesman 16 Jul 1904 4:2
OBITUARY:
Mr. Webb was born in Linn county, Ohio, February 21, 1822. He was married to Miss Christine Leach in 1840. In 1847 they moved to Oregon via an ox team across the plains, first locating on Sauvies island, and thence to Oregon City. Later they moved to this section where they took a donation land claim on which he died.
Mr. Webb was a man of wonderfully vigorous mind and until the time of his death possessed a splendid memory of those early days and many of the incidents applicable thereto.
He leaves a large family as follows: Mary Groshong, of Jefferson; Mrs. Jane Wade, of Gervais; Mrs. Tobiatha Stevens, of Gervais; Mrs. Harriett Louise Groshong, of Wilhoit; Mrs. Annie E. Taylor, of Gervais; Mrs. Sarah Skeen, of Mollala; Mrs. Margie Becker, of Gervais; Mrs. Lucinda Simmans, of Mollala; Frank Webb, of Silverton; and George Webb, of Gervais. In addition to the above he leaves over 100 descendants. The funeral occurred Monday, April 6 at 2 p.m. Interment at the Pioneer cemetery.
