Ebenezer Larned Townsend, was born in Ohio in September, 1840, and with his parents moved to Illinois at an early age. When he was 10 years of age the family came by wagon train to Oregon. They were six months on the way and much of the time the young lad walked. They landed near Woodburn on October 16, 1850 and with other of the same company took up land on the banks of the Pudding River near the present station of Townsend which bears the family name.
