OBITUARY: 
Eugene Ward Manning, 71, of Gervais passed away Thursday, June 16, at his home.
Mr. Manning was born in Gervais on April 15, 1895 and was a farmer and carpenter by occupation. He was commander of the Veterans of World War I of Woodburn, a member of the Oregon State Grange, a member of the American Legion Post No. 46, and a member of the BPOE Elk’s Lodge No. 336 of Salem for 45 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Richardson of Salem; a son, Ellis of Corvallis; two sisters, Mrs. M. Ramp of Brooks and Perle Wood of Silverton; four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, at 2 p.m. at the Ringo-Cornwell Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Pioneer cemetery in Gervais.
