OBITUARY: 
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Harriet R. Sturgis, 76, died Monday.
A native of Gervais, she lived in Brooks, Salem and Woodburn for many years. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Yakima and St. Helens. She was a member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Oren of Corvallis; daughters, Barbara Lewis of Cloverdale, Sue Ann Irving of Corvallis, Margaret Sims and Jane Sturgis, both of Danville, Calif.; sisters, Arlethea Sisler of Portland and Frances Harper of Woodburn; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a family picnic in the summer. Contributions: Pioneer Memorial Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 9134, Brooks 97305 or American Diabetes Association, 1660 Duke St., Alexandria, Va 22314.

Harriet Rose Sturgis Jan. 3, 1919 - De. 18, 1995
Harriet Rose Sturgis, a long-time resident of Marion County, died Monday in Walnut Creek, Calif. She was 76.
She was born in Gervais and graduated from Gervais High School. She later completed beauty school. Her maiden name was McDougall. She married Oren Sturgis on June 2, 1939. They moved to Tillamook in 1951 and later lived in Yakima, Wash., St. Helens, Keizer, Salem, and Woodburn. She owned and operated her own beauty shop, Cloud Nine, in Yakima and St. Helens. In recent years she has lived with her daughters in California.
She was a past member of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband Oren of Corvallis; daughters Barbara Lewis of Cloverdale, Sue Ann Irving of Corvallis, and Margaret Sims and Jane Sturgis, both of Danville, Calif.; sisters Arlethea Sisler of Portland, and Frances Harper of Woodburn; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Disposition was by cremation. In keeping with her love of family gatherings, her life will be celebrated with a remembrance picnic to be held in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to the Pioneer Memorial Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 9134, Brooks, OR 97305; the John Muir Foundation, for cardiac care, 1399 Ygnacio Valley Rd., Suite 36, Walnut Creek, CA 94598; or the American Diabetes Association, 1660 Duke St., Alexandria, VA 22314.
