1900 CENSUS - Paul Harpole, age 60, b. Apr 1840 in Illinois, occupation farmer, is enumerated with his wife of 3 years, Grace, age 19, b. Jul 1880 in Oregon.
1910 CENSUS - Paul Harpole, age 70, farmer, b. Illinois, is enumerated with his wife of 11 years, Grace, age 28, b. Oregon, along with children Lester, age 9, and Lafayette, age 7, both born in Oregon.
OBITUARY: 
Paul Harpole, died Friday morning, Feb. 16, 1912, at the home of his nephew Wm. Harpole, on the old donation land claim four miles south of Gervais. Mr. Harpole’s home was in Benton County. He came on a visit during the holidays and was taken sick with heart trouble and gradually grew worse until death relieved his suffering.
He was 71 years old and came with his father to Oregon in 1851 and settled on the old land claim in 1852. He leaves a wife and two sons, a brother, Lafayette Harpole and two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Hagey of La Grande and Mrs. Daniel Shaffer of Eugene and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Saturday at the old home place and burial took place at the Pioneer cemetery. Undertaker John Weiss of Gervais had charge of the same.

At his residence, at Brooks, Or., Friday morning, Feb. 16, Paul Harpole, 41 years old. He was born April 12, 1840, in Pike Co., Illinois, son of William and Nancy Harpole. He crossed the plains in 1851 and settled on the old home place, one mile north of Brooks, in the following year. He remained there until 1897, when he moved to Hale, Lane county. In 1908 he went to South Prairie. On Sept. 28, 1898, he was married to Miss Grace Valentine. He is survived by his widow and two sons, eleven and nine years old; his brother, Lafayette Harpole, and two sisters Mrs. Nancy Hagey of Hilgard and Mrs. Susan Shaffer of Eugene. The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the family home in Brooks. Mr. Harpole was well known in the Willamette valley.
