OBITUARY:
PIONEER MAN PASSES AFTER LONG LIFE.
Jacob Groshong passed away Thursday morning, June 9th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oakley, of Bremerton, Wash., where he was visiting.
Mr. Groshong was a pioneer of this community, and would have celebrated his 85th birthday next August. He was born in Illinois in August 1842, and crossed the plains with his parents who immigrated from Missouri in 1853 by ox teams. They settled first on French Prairie, finally making their home at St. Louis where Mr. Groshong has since made his home.
Since the death of his wife three years ago, Mr. Groshong has divided his time between his daughters, staying a while at St. Louis and at Donald, Bremerton, and Salem, usually walking most of the distance from one place to another.
Mr. Groshong is a brother of Joe Groshong of Albany, John H. Groshong, of St. Louis, James M. Groshong, Scotts Mills; Margaret Hoover, Marshfield; father of Will Groshong, St. Louis; Mrs. Oakley, Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. Martin, Salem; Mrs. Kirkwood of Newberg; Mrs. Eppers of Donald, and Mrs. Wampole of Silverton; also he is survived by 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The remains reached Gervais Saturday and funeral services were held at the Pioneer Cemetery at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Burial was in Pioneer cemetery. Rev. Blodgett conducted the services.
