Jones married Emma Hovenden, herself a member of a pioneer family that in 1949 came from England by way of Tasmania and the Hawaiian Islands. Her parents, Alfred and Sarah Soden Hovenden, lived on their donation land claim near Hubbard, where she was born. She also graduated from Willamette University, class of 1878, and for a short time before her marriage taught school. For twenty-odd years after their marriage she and her husband lived at Brooks, Oregon, where they had a store and farming interests. Prior to 1904 they moved to Labish Meadows, a farm two miles south of Brooks, and built the great house which was destroyed by fire in June 1929. On October 11th of this [1930] year they were married fifty years, the third consecutive generation of the Jones family to celebrate a golden wedding."
