Maple, 86, a former Gervais resident, died in a Portland nursing home Saturday following a long illness. He was a retired police officer. Survivors include sons Jack, Portland, Frank, La Palma, Calif., and Leonard Los Angeles; daughters Betty Smith, Boring, and Alicia Steele, Gresham; 26 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
