OBITUARY: Arthur James Conklin, 81, of Milwaukie, formerly a resident of Salem, died Monday.
He was born in White Bird, Idaho, and lived here from 1940 until 1979, when he moved to Milwaukie. A construction worker, he helped build South Salem High School. In 1955, after he became blind, he and his wife built their own home here. He was a member of the Eagles.
Survivors include his sons, James, Portland, and Murray, Woodburn; daughter, Jeanene Kuhnau, Portland; brothers, Murray, Waldport, and Howard, Salem; and sisters, Edna Barker, Albany, and Lucille Smith, Salem.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m .Thursday in Brooks Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Peake mortuary, Milwaukie.
