Mary Berniece Yaws, of Midland, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2004. She was born February 5, 1917 to Bessie and Alfred Roberts in Dixon County, Nebraska. On February 27, 1947 she married Thurman Yaws in Los Angeles, California. Berniece was a graduate of BIOLA Bible College in Los Angeles and was an ordained Assembly of God minister for over fifty years. She pioneered a church in Bisbee, Arizona and along with her husband pastored churches in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, Fort Sumner, New Mexico, Swisshome, Oregon, John Day, Oregon and Forest Grove, Oregon. Her and her husband retired in Brooks, Oregon. She moved to Midland, Texas in 1993. Berniece was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Midland and served as president of the Women's Ministries. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thurman R. Yaws, daughters, Mary Yaws and Loreena Yaws; sisters, Lillian Barnett and Alice Hellmenn. Berniece is survived by her son, Clayton Yaws and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Yaws, of Midland, TX; grandsons, Chris Masters of Las Cruces, NM; Brandon Masters of Las Cruces, NM; great-grandson, Austin Masters of Las Cruces, NM; sisters, Hazel Ream of Lake Isabella, CA; Donna Sutton of Hacienda Heights, CA; Faith Foster of San Marcos, CA; brother, Thomas Roberts of Goldendale, WA; cherished nieces, nephews and a host of friends and loved ones. Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at First Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

OBITUARY: 
The Rev. Thurmon [Thurman] Yaws, 68, of Salem, died Sunday.
He was born in Pecos, Texas, and came to Salem in 1977 from Forest Grove. He was a pastor and evagelist for 50 years and started 7 churches in Oregon and New Mexico before retiring in 1984. He was a member of Brooks Assembly of God Church, Brooks.
Survivors include his wife, Berniece M.; and son, Clayton R., Midland, Texas.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Brooks Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in Brooks Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Howell-Edwards-Doerkson mortuary. Contributions may be made to the church bell memorial fund.
