1930 OR CENSUS - Oren G. Sturgis, age 10, b. Oregon, is enumerated as the grandson in the home of Emma W. Sturgis, age 73, widowed, b. Oregon. Also enumerated are J. Monroe Sturgis, age 39, widowed, identified as son [of Emma], occupation farmer, b. Oregon, Irene Sturgis, age 12, identified as granddaughter [of Emma], b. Oregon, and Charles A., age 45, widowed, identified as son [of Emma], occupation laborer, b. Oregon.

OBITUARY: 
HILLSBORO -Oren Glen Sturgis, 86, formerly of Woodburn, died April 14, 2006 in Hillsboro.
Oren was born April 17, 1919 in Brooks, Oregon to James Monroe and Irma Larson Sturgis. He married Harriet Rose McDougall Sturgis on June 2, 1939. They moved to Tillamook in 1951 and later lived in Yakima, St. Helens, Keizer, Salem, and Woodburn. Harriet died on December 18, 1995. He moved to Corvallis, then to Hillsboro to be near a daughter.
He was initially a member of the Oregon National Guard and then, in 1937, was discharged into the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). He and about 180 other men were stationed at Camp Cascadia, located east of Sweet Home. In his early life, he was a farmer, first in Brooks, then in Tillamook, owning a dairy farm there. He later retired from Boise Cascade Plywood, where he spent time with the company in Washington, Oregon and Costa Rica.
He loved fishing in Odell Lake and enjoying the family recreation cabin there. He also enjoyed playing bridge and working crossword puzzles.
He is survived by daughters, Barbara Lewis of Cloverdale, Sue Ann Irving of Hillsboro, Jane Sturgis of Newport; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A daughter, Margaret Sims of Newport, and one grandchild preceded him in death.
There will be no service. A family gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pioneer Memorial Cemetery Association, PO Box 9134, Brooks, OR 97305 or the charity of one's choice.
