SALEM - Clara C. Deyo Hanssen 81, was born in The Dalles, Oregon August 28, 1931 to Delbert and Stella Deyo. She was the oldest of four children. Clara attended grammar school in Rufus, Oregon. They moved to White Swan, Washington in 1939 where she attended White Swan High and graduated in 1949.
She moved to Salem and attended Capital Business College. After completing business and bookkeeping courses she held various jobs including a number of years at Salem Title Company.
Clara met Manfred Hanssen during a dance at the YWCA. His charm and musical talent playing the accordion and singing, began their relationship and they later married October 11, 1958. They were the 2nd couple married in the new church building at Christ Lutheran Church on State Street. Clara enjoyed singing in the choir with Manfred and remained active in the church choir even after Manfreds' death May 17, 2008.
Clara and Manfred began Hanssen Landscape Co. in 1961 which is currently in operation now for over 50 years.
Clara is survived by her three sons; Brian and wife Coleen, Alan and wife Rhonda, Kevin and wife Mina; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother Dave Deyo, Mt Vernon, WA and sister Martha Dillman, Wapato, WA.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7 and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday June 8, 2013 at Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4440 State Street, Salem. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
