A late resident of Rt. 3, Box 88, she continued to live days at the family home, spending her nights at the home of Mrs. Riches. She became ill about two weeks ago with heart trouble.
Mrs. Goodknecht was the daughter of the Benjamin Davenport’s, a pioneer family who settled here in the 1850s. She was born on a farm at Rt. 3, Box 88, and lived there and with her husband, John W. Goodknecht, on an adjoining farm. He died in 1955.
Surviving besides Mrs. Riches are daughters Mrs. Edna Clark, Junction City, and Mrs. Helen Menegat, North Bend; six grandchildren and one great grandson.

Mrs. Goodknecht, Area Pioneer, Taken by Death – Mrs. Eunice Goodknecht, 87, who was born and raised in Waldo Hills, where she lived all her life, passed away Thursday afternoon at the nearby home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Martha) Riches.
Services were 2 p.m. Saturday at Unger Funeral Chapel with Rev. Willard Norman officiating and interment in the pioneer Mt. Hope Cemetery in Waldo Hills.
Mrs. Goodknecht was born March 15, 1879 on the homestead of her pioneer parents, Benjamin and Lucretia Davenport and was the last survivor of her family. The house in which she was born burned, but another was built on the same site and in 1939 she and her late husband, John, built the home in which she continued to live. She had spent the nights at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Riches, for several years, but was at her own home during the days until she became ill with a heart condition two weeks ago.
She was a charter member of the Waldo Hills Community Club, incorporated in the late 1920s, and was active in the club for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Riches, Mrs. Edna Clark of Junction City, and Mrs. Helen Menegat of North Bend; six grandchildren, a great grandchild, and several nephews. She was a first cousin to Homer Davenport, Silverton’s famed cartoonist.
Pall bearers were T. R. Riches, Waldo Rue, Verle King, Bob Riches, Rolando Menegat, and Ray Clark.
