BIOGRAPHICAL (From Mt. Hope Cemetery, pg 159):
"Marion County Probate File #654 for Esom Hunter indicates that he died Apr. April 16, 1877. Elizabeth A. Hunter was appointed as administrator of his intestate estate. Heirs were: Elizabeth A. Hunter, widow, age 39; Thomas Hunter age 20; Nettie Hunter age 18; Alice Hunter age 16; Stephen Hunter age 15; Julia Hunter age 9; Byron Hunter age 7; Ida Hunter age 4; and Nora Hunter age 3 – all of Marion Co., Or.
Esom lived for a time in Iowa, moved with his family to Sacramento area, then came to the Willamette Valley by stagecoach. His brother Peter stayed in the Albany area and another brother lived in Halsey.
Esom was a member of the board of the Centerview School, District #86.
Esom Hunter's land became the property of Peter Gutnecht [Goodknecht] and is located on Cascade Hiway at the intersection of Sunnyview."
