BIOGRAPHICAL(From: Steeves) - “Temperance E. Hunt married John Downing at her father’s home in the Waldo Hills on April 12, 1849. She was the daughter of John Shotwell Hunt and Temperance Estep.
Mrs. Downing, who was born in Indiana January 16, 1834, proved a fitting helpmeet for this worthy man and none stood higher in the respect of Marion County pioneers than this couple. The following children were born to them: Edwin A., Albert Lester, (a twin brother who died in infancy), Alice Izora Patton, Marion Thomas, John Herbert, and Harry Carleton.”
