OBITUARY:
Death Takes Frank Bowers – Silverton, Frank S. Bowers, 82 died Tuesday, May 17, at a Salem rest home following an extended illness.
Mr. Bowers was born of pioneer parents, Phillip Bowers and Samantha Greer Bowers, in the Waldo Hills district, Dec. 28, 1872.
From the local schools he attended eastern colleges and for a number of years was a well known cartoonist on San Francisco papers.
He was working for the Indianapolis Star as a political and historical cartoonist when his eyesight became affected and he retired early in the 1900s and moved back to his home farm, a portion of the Geer donation land claim of pioneer days. This acreage was later sold and he and Mrs. Bowers moved to their home in Pratum.
The only immediate family survivor is Mrs. Bowers, who was the former Carrie Virginia Anderson.
Funeral services are announced for 1:30 o’clock Friday afternoon from the Salem Clough-Barrick parlors.
Concluding rites are to be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.”
