Born Jan. 26, 1901, in The Dalles, he lived in Oregon City for 45 years until he moved to Gladstone in 1987. Mr. Means had worked as a wheat farmer in The Dalles for many years. He later operated a farm in Oregon City until his retirement in the late 1960s.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Jewell of Gladstone; sons Howard of Milwaukie and Charles R. of Tualatin, daughter, Melba of Gladstone, brother, Lawrence of Portland, sister, Hazel Stover of Portland; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren, 10 September-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren.
